More on the evening at the Pickford Film Center a fly fishing documentary film showing.

As featured in the recent edition of the Heritage Resources Newsletter, Western Libraries is delighted to collaborate with the Pickford Film Center in co-sponsoring the opening night of a documentary film series entitled “Doctober” on October 1^st.   The event will feature a screening of “Kiss the Water,” a documentary film about Megan Boyd and her expertise in fly-tying.   In conjunction with the film, Heritage Resources will provide a small exhibit of our fly fishing books, flies and other realia.   These featured items will be housed in a secure exhibit cases donated by the Whatcom Museum for our use that evening.   Additionally, select images from the collection of noted fly fisherman and photographer Ralph E. Wahl (housed at the Center for Pacific Northwest Studies) will be streaming on the big screen prior to the film’s start. A review of “Kiss the Water” is available here.

Nooksack River needs our help

Flowing from the high snowfields and glaciers of Mt. Baker and Mt. Shuksan, the Nooksack River system is home to salmon, bald eagles, black bears, cougars, elk, and many other fish and wildlife that need intact, wild places to survive. 
Giving the river system Wild and Scenic designation would permanently protect the health of the Nooksack River, support salmon and steelhead recovery efforts, promote sustainable recreation, and require transparent and collaborative management of the river.
That's why we started a petition to Rep. Suzan DelBene (WA-1) and Senators Patty Murray and Maria Cantwell, which says:

The Nooksack is the lifeblood for local communities that rely on river tourism, recreation, research, and restoration jobs. Support protecting 100 miles of rivers and tributaries in the upper Nooksack basin through designation under the Wild and Scenic Rivers Act. This will help salmon and steelhead recovery efforts, promote sustainable recreation, and require transparent and collaborative management of the river.
